Dead or Alive has a classic Wild West theme. Imagine yourself walking into a dusty town, with a swing-door bar, a sheriff’s office, a post to harness your horse – and you are there. This NetEnt designed mobile slot is as entertaining as it is atmospheric – it has plenty of features and that all-important big win potential.

No Western town is complete without a series of ‘Wanted’ posters. These act as the wild symbols on the reels of Dead or Alive. By substituting for other symbols, these posters will ensure that extra wins will be heading your way. Posters become even more important in the free spins bonus feature. They stick to the reels, making your spins more profitable as the feature progresses.

The game is set during the day, but in parts the sky is as black as night. Bolts of lightning fire from the dark clouds. In the distance you see desert rock formations. The framed reels have just 9 win-lines, which allows you to bet more per line compared to the 50-lines+ slots which dominate the listings. While there are no jackpots, the biggest line hits have the potential to more than make up for this.

Play Dead or Alive Slots for Free

Dead or Alive was an early example of a slot with the popular ‘Wild West’ theme. It still stands up well against games produced more recently – despite significant advances in computer design. You can check out the atmospheric setting and solid, enjoyable game play for free in demo mode.

This will not only let you enjoy the features. You can make sure that it works well with your mobile device before you commit to playing for real money. This includes a chance to get used to the controls, try different bet levels, figure out the auto play and get to know the highest paying combinations on the reels.

Demo play might not have the potential rewards of real money gaming, though it will not take away from the excitement of the main bonus feature. You get to collect the wanted posters for the different villains – and retrigger for extra spins and those potentially huge wins if you get lucky. Dead or Alive is one of many NetEnt slots which are available in free to play mode. You can enjoy newer titles including Jimi Hendrix slots, Steam Tower, or the Mega Fortune games without committing any cash.

How to Play Dead or Alive Slots

The set up for this NetEnt designed slot is the popular 5×3 configuration seen on many mobile slots. Dead or Alive has just nine win-lines. You set your stake with two customisable options. The first is the coin value. This can be any amount between 1p and 50p and you multiply this by 9 (the number of lines) for your initial stake. Then you can set the bet level which ranges between 1 and 4. Multiply that initial stake by the chosen bet level to set your total stake.

A look at the pay table tells you that the wild poster is the highest paying symbol – as well as the wild. Line up five in a row on a win line to win 1,500 coins. This wild will substitute for the regular symbols – though not the crossed gun bonus symbols.

The sheriff’s badge is the highest paying standard symbol. This is worth 1,000 coins for the maximum five. Other themed symbols include a gun in its holster, cowboy hat, cowboy boots and a shot of whiskey in a glass. You know there’s going to be trouble at the saloon because next to the full whiskey glass is another that has been knocked over…

At the lower end of the pay table there are the five playing card symbols. These are each wrought in gun metal.

Strategies for Winning on Dead or Alive

Dead or Alive is unusual for a mobile slot. The trend seems to be that games are offering larger numbers of win lines – or all-ways winning systems. This game bucks that trend with just nine win-lines. There are two ways to win big in this game. The free spins are the main way to get the bigger prizes, though line hits can also be profitable.

#1 – Free Spins Bonus with Wanted Poster Collection Feature

The biggest winning opportunities come when you trigger the free spins feature. This is activated when you hit the crossed guns symbols 3, 4 or 5 times anywhere across the reels. You’ll also win 2x, 4x, 25x and 2,500x your total spin bet when you hit 2, 3, 4 or 5 scatters, respectively.

12 free spins are awarded. At first this feature seems similar to the base game, that is, until the first wild lands. The wild poster will now unfurl and reveal one of five different characters. These are five villains named Apache, Belle, Jesse, Della, and Billy. Each looks like they will put up a fight (usually a gunfight) if you try and claim their reward.

Having revealed the character, the wild symbol will stay in place for the rest of the feature. With sticky wilds, by the end of the feature they can be everywhere, meaning wins should become progressively larger.

You can also retrigger the feature. If at the end of the 12 spins there is at least one wild on each of the five reels, you will find yourself with 5 additional spins. The beauty of this retrigger is that those wilds will remain in place. This gives you 5 more wild-laden spins and the chance to break the bank.

#2 – Big Line Hits with Bigger Denomination Spins

9 Win-lines has a hidden benefit. You can bet more per line than you would on a 50+ win-line slot. This means your line hits will be proportionally bigger. For example, if you usually bet £1 on a 50 win-line slot, the closest is 90p per spin on Dead or Alive. You are betting 10p per line, which means 5 of the wild symbols is worth £150.
